It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death, on Saturday 22 September 2007, of Mr Nicolas Halsted (GBR), at the age of 64.
Our fencers who competed internationally from the sixties, seventies and eighties will remember Nick Halsted who was a member of the Great Britain team and fenced at both foil and épée in the World Championships from 1965 through to 1971, winning the team silver medal in men’s épée in 1965 in Paris. He represented Great Britain in the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games, was Captain of the British Foil Team from 1973 to 1978 and President of the British Fencing Federation for 8 years (1986-1994).
In 2004, Mr Halsted, a lawyer from Oxford University, was elected member of the FIE Legal Commission, position that he held up to the present day.
Fencing New Zealand sends its deepest sympathy and condolences to Mr Halsted’s family and to British fencing at this very sad time.
