2006-01-30 14:14 - Senior Commonwealth Championship Selection
Posted by adminmore from same (FeNZ)
FeNZThe new competition calendar for 2006 is now available so it is probably timely to remind senior fencers of the selection criteria for Commonwealth Championships as published last year in the FeNZ Selection Policy.

As is usual for NZ senior team selection, North Island Championships will be a trial for this event and it is anticipated that fencers will be named by the end of May. Any interested fencer who is unable to attend the trial should present a very good reason (such as a severed limb, demonstrably your own, in a bucket of ice) to the Selector well in advance.

A formal request for fencers to nominate themselves for this event will be announced soon. In the meantime any questions can be directed to selector@fencing.org.nz

See below for detailed info about performance thresholds.
The minimum performance threshold that applies to this event is as follows:

For NZ based Fencers:

In order to be in the ball-park for consideration to represent New Zealand in any weapon at the Commonwealth Championships, each fencer will need to have at least 600 ranking points in that weapon at the time of selection AND of those points, at least one contributing result should come from either FIE points or a competition worth more than 250 points (ie AFF1,2,3 or Australian nationals).

For overseas based NZ Fencers:

In order to be in the ball-park for consideration to represent New Zealand in any weapon at the Commonwealth Championships, each overseas based fencer will need to present to the selector sufficient international and/or foreign domestic results to convince him that they have reached a standard equivilent to that required of NZ based fencers.

Any waiver of these requirements can only be made at the Selector's discretion and that discretion will only be exercised in exceptional cirumstances as defined by the Selector.
