2004-02-02 22:17 - World Junior & Cadet Championships Bulgaria 1-8th April 2004
Posted by adminmore from same (North)
The Selectors have named the following fencers to attend the World Junior Championships in Plovdiv Bulgaria in April.

Andreas Sesun
Sarah Tabak
Laura Harvey
Jonathan Chan
James Tabak

Andreas has also been selected to attend the Epee training camp being held immediately prior to the competition.

Any other NZ fencers interested in attending this competition and who can meet the selection criteria detailed below should contact the Selectors asap at selector@fencing.org.nz
Selection criteria for World Juniors 2004:

The standard of the competition should be significantly higher than that experienced at any level domestically in NZ. The selectors will therefore be looking for proven ability to perform at a level higher than NZ or Australian age group events.

Results will be considered in the following order of merit:

International events
Australian Senior domestic events
NZ Senior domestic championship events
NZ or Australian age group championship events

Other factors:
Weapon specific skillset
Proven commitment to training and international success
Ability to learn and grow from the experience.
Ability to be a good ambassador/representative of New Zealand fencing

Benchmarks
It is unlikely that NZ or Australian domestic age group results alone will be enough. A top 8 finish in NZ or Aust. senior domestic events (of the level of PNIFE or Nats) would be considered an appropriate level of achievement. Entry in an international event but failure to secure FIE points for that event will not be considered as a result.

In order to be considered for selection you will need to do the following:

Measure yourself against the above criteria and advise the selectors asap of which weapon or weapons you think you can best meet the requirements. In the case of more than one weapon advise the order of preference.
