2004-02-03 11:19 - Olympic Zone Qualifier Manila April 2004
Posted by adminmore from same (Olympics)
OlympicsThe Asia/Oceania Zone Olympic Qualifying tournament will be held in Manila, Philipines 19-20 April 2004. Each in-zone country who have not qualiied for the Olympics via another route can send at most one competitor of a suitable standard to each event.

The Selectors have announced the selection of the following fencers  to represent NZ:

Jess Beer - Womens Epee
Sarah Raudkivi - Womens Foil

If there are other NZ fencers who feel they can meet the selection criteria outlined below they should contact the Selectors at selector@fencing.org.nz asap
Selection Criteria  Olympic Zone Qualifier 2004.

Results will be considered in the following order of merit:
1. International A grade results.
2. Other International results
3 Australian Senior Ranking Competitions or equivalent foreign domestic event
4 NZ Senior domestic competitions.

Benchmarks:
1. NZ domestic results alone are not sufficient.
2. NZ and Australian domestic results alone are unlikely to be sufficient.

Other factors and notes:

1.Failure to gain FIE ranking points in an A grade will not be considered "a result". That is, just turning up does not carry any weight.
2.Some consideration will be given to demonstrated commitment to training and international success.
3.Recent form.
4.Ability to be a good ambassador/representative of NZ fencing.
