Fencing is truly a sport for life. A veteran in our sport is a fencer over the age of 40 years. Many continue way past that age, however competing, coaching or officiating.
The Commonwealth Veterans Fencing Championships came to New Zealand, for the first time in November 2016. Around 200 veteran fencers including national, commonwealth and world champion fencers from 10 different countries participated at one of the largest international sporting events Christchurch has hosted in recent times.
Veterans enjoy competing, but with a real spirit of camaraderie and endeavour. If you are interested in taking up fencing or coming back to the sport, contact your local club.
