FeNZ is issuing a reminder to all members that the FeNZ Code of Conduct applies to all behaviour and communications, including those on any social media platform— WhatsApp/Messenger, forums and group chats—whether “private” or not. By holding FeNZ membership, you have agreed to uphold these standards.

This reminder is published in the form requested by the Disciplinary Subcommittee and reflects the expectation that members do not publish or share harmful communications or any material that may breach the Code of Conduct.

What this means for members

  • Respectful conduct, online and offline. Communicate with courtesy toward athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, administrators, and spectators.
  • No harmful communications. Do not post, share, or amplify content that is abusive, harassing, defamatory, discriminatory, threatening, or otherwise in breach of the Code.
  • Assume nothing is truly private. Content in “private” groups or chats can be forwarded or captured and may still constitute a breach.
  • Protect our community and sport. Your online actions affect member wellbeing and the reputation of fencing in New Zealand.

Breaches & Process

Alleged breaches—including harmful communications on social media—may be referred under FeNZ’s Disciplinary Regulations. Outcomes can include education requirements, warnings, suspension, or other sanctions as permitted by policy.

  • Report a concern: Please document the issue (e.g., screenshots, dates, context) and contact [This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.] or your designated FeNZ contact. Reports are handled sensitively in line with FeNZ policies and applicable law.
