Fencing New Zealand Constitution Review: Discussion Paper

This discussion paper seeks your feedback on the Fencing New Zealand (FeNZ) Constitution Committee’s proposals to update or establish national, regional and affiliated club constitutions.

The Incorporated Societies Act 2022 (the Act) establishes new obligations for registered societies. Existing Societies who wish to remain incorporated need to reregister no later than 5 April 2026. This includes our National body, Fencing North, Fencing Central and Fencing Mid-South and many of our affiliated fencing clubs.

A key step in the registration process is reviewing and where necessary updating our constitutions to ensure they comply with the new requirements in the Act. The review process also provides us with an opportunity to consider what further changes could be made to modernise our constitutions to better serve the New Zealand fencing community.

The discussion paper presents some background context to frame the review process. It sets out the issues and options considered by the Constitution Committee together with our recommendations and proposed next steps. It also includes questions to prompt your feedback on our proposals and identify anything we may have missed which still needs to be addressed.

Feedback by 9th March 2025.
