Dear Members of the Fencing Community
The recently posted nomination forms for the Senior Asian Championships (India) and the Senior World Championships (Hong Kong) noted that management/coaching fees would be applicable.
This has prompted some fencers to ask whether the current practice for these two tournaments - that is, management/coaching fees have usually not been applicable - has been changed through a FENZ board decision, and if so, when and how.
FENZ wishes to confirm to you that the current practice remains in place.
The reference to coach management/coaching fees being applicable was inadvertent and not the result of a deliberate change in practice.
FENZ apologises for any confusion this may have caused.
FENZ is, however, committed to reviewing its current approach and its policies for FENZ-managed teams. You will find a reference to this work in the Minutes of the Board’s Meeting on 7 December 2025 (Agenda 10.3) on the website. https://www.fencing.org.nz/resources/documents/board-minutes/360-minutes-of-fenz-meeting-7-december-2025/file
This review is to ensure consistency in our approach, effective support for participating teams, and duty of care and other responsibilities as the national fencing body are met. The aim is to have any changes implemented for the CY2027 season.
FENZ will engage with the fencing community in the coming months to ensure that the review outcomes are fit for purpose.
In the meantime, the current practice for managing/coaching fees for Senior International tournaments will continue. There will be no management/coaching fees for the upcoming Senior Asian and World Championships.
FENZ remains committed to strengthening its communication and transparency.
