Applying for exemptions
Attendance at all selection events (e.g., World Cups, Australian Nationals, U15’s ) is required unless a valid exemption (e.g., medical, residing overseas, exams and exceptional circumstances) has been granted as per the Exemption section in the FeNZ Selection Policy 2026.
Each fencer, or their guardian, must apply individually for their own exemption.
To apply for an exemption
- Fencers should email the Secretary (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and cc the Selectors (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) stating the reason the exemption is sought; AND then reference the exemption in their nomination form.
- The exemption must be requested before the event for which it is sought (e.g., New Zealand Open Championships) and referenced in the nomination form.
- In cases of illness, the exemption must be advised prior to the event starting.
- If illness or injury occurs during a competition, fencers must notify the Secretary and Selectors within two weeks or before nominations close for the next event they wish to enter—whichever comes first.
In summary:
- Apply now for an exemption for the New Zealand Open Championships by emailing the Secretary, cc’ing the Selectors.
- When submitting a nomination, always refer to the exemption you’ve applied for.
