The Fencing NZ Board has confirmed its approach to New Zealand participation in the Commonwealth Fencing Championships 2022 being held in London, 9-20 August 2022.

The Board wants to enable participation by a New Zealand team, with the proviso that we can meet our duty of care to the team given the challenges created by the Covid pandemic.

Proposed Calendar for 2022 below - includes additional competitions early in 2022 as ranking tournaments.

On Monday the NZ Government announced that from the 1st of January schools and early learning services and providers will need to ensure only vaccinated staff and support people have contact with children and students.

It is with regret that we must announce that, due to health issues, Mark Rance has temporarily stepped down from his role as President of Fencing NZ, effective immediately.

The Board of Fencing NZ wishes Mark a speedy recovery and looks forward to welcoming him back as soon as conceivably possible.

With a busy year ahead leading into the Commonwealth Fencing Championships, the Board has appointed David Elder to the role of Acting President of Fencing NZ until Mark returns, or until the Fencing NZ AGM in March 2022.

Please do everything you can to assist him.

We know that our whole community will be saddened to hear Mark’s news, but ask that you allow him and his family privacy in this difficult time.

Due to the continuing Covid19 situation in Auckland, the New Zealand Fencing Championships due to take place in Auckland 23rd to 25th October has been cancelled.

Fencing NZ are currently working on a Calendar for 2022, with additional events to be scheduled early in the year.

The Selection Criteria for international events in 2022 are also being revised to take into account the limited National events in 2021 and the inability to travel to overseas competitions.
