Good luck to our team competing at the Asian Senior Championships:

It is great to see our fencers achieving some impressive results in the AFC2 event in Adelaide yesterday.

NZ fencers gained an impressive 4 medals over the weekend - Lena Jacob following up on her Gold medal in the U23 Women's Foil with another Gold - this time in the Robyn Chaplin Memorial Women's Open Foil.

Auckland is hosting the North Island Championships this year on 17 and 18 August.

The President's Cup and Veterans Epee competition was held Saturday 13th to Sunday 14th July at the Ara Polytechnic Recreation Centre in Christchurch.

Women fencers have been present at the Summer Olympic Games since the 1924 Olympics in Paris. Foil was then the only weapon used and Danish Ellen Osiier became the first female Olympic champion in fencing.

New Zealand has strong representation with its women fencers and officials.

Many clubs offer special women only, or girls only, classes, training courses and fitness sessions.

If you are interested in taking up fencing or coming back to the sport, contact your local club.

Like every sport, fencing needs referees and officials.  Refereeing is a wonderful way to be involved in the sport for life.
