It is with much sadness Fencing New Zealand acknowledges the passing of one of its youngest members.
Emily Branje was lost in a tragic accident whilst enjoying a family holiday on the West Coast last week.
Emily was one of Mid-South’s brightest young fencers who recently won the regional Under 9’s Foil championship. She was a pupil at Sewlyn House school and a keen and active member of the school Fencing class. Her enthusiasm and inclusiveness were a catalyst for her classmates to work as a team and grow their skills together. Her passion and thirst for learning fencing meant that she also took individual lessons each week.
Emily was also a competitive Highland dancer.
The thoughts and prayers of the New Zealand Fencing family are with Emily’s parents Janine and Neil and the wider family at this very sad time.
A memorial service for Emily will be held at 1pm on Friday 4 October at St Margaret's College auditorium.
